Sthala Purana

Tradition holds that Chandra, the Moon, worshipped Shiva here to be freed from a curse. The village is also linked with the Nayanar saint Appoodhi Adigal, whose son is said to have been revived from a snakebite when the poet-saint Appar sang a hymn here.
