History

One of the Paadal Petra Sthalams praised in the Tevaram hymns and one of the largest temple complexes in Tamil Nadu. Its temple chariot, the Aazhi Ther, is among the largest in India. Thiruvarur is the birthplace of the Carnatic composers Tyagaraja, Muthuswami Dikshitar and Syama Sastri.
