Sthala Purana

Tradition holds that Shiva appeared here as Vaidyanatha, the divine healer, to cure devotees of their ailments, and that Angaraka (Mars) was relieved of a skin disease here. Murugan is said to have received his spear from Parvati at this place, and Jatayu, the bird-king of the Ramayana, is said to have been cremated here.
